I went ahead and cut out the damaged section of subfloor. Unfortunately, the damage went under the wall so I cut as close to the wall as I could. I'll add nailing blocks when I put the new plywood down. You can see one of the holes in the drywall above the kitchen ceiling fixture just to the right of center in this picture.
