The black stuff is a silt fence I put up a few weeks before this. We had a major storm front come through and put about 3" of mud in the bottom of the pool. It took 3 weeks of nightly vacuuming and filter cleaning to get the pool clean and before I was even done, I put up the silt fence. It did great with the next storm.. Not a spec of dirt got into the pool.
Hopefully these new walls will do the same.
