Old fireplace, mantle and hearth gone. The "hack and slay" method was used to remove the old fireplace insert. Instead of disconnecting the gas line inside the fireplace, the 'foreman' just grabbed his tin snips and cut the chassis to allow the gas line to be pulled out for disconnection. Pretty half-assed if you ask me.
