Range docs said there needed to be 6 inches of clearance all the way around (Which I found more than a bit odd) and there was about an inch so heat shielding was installed in the opening. Pro-Tip: Use gloves when smoothing this stuff. I got a nice "paper cut" from the aluminum backing at the base of my pinky finger.
