Standing back and taking a look. The tub doesn't really have that large of a footprint without that huge surround structure so I decided I was going to make the new surround as narrow and low as possible. That would allow me to make the shower almost 4" 'wider' and not quite 6' 'deeper'. Almost a 2 square foot increase. It doesn't sound like a lot, but when the original shower wasn't quite 9 square feet in all, it wil feel much larger.
