This is the back of the sink base cabinet. That stuff is expanding foam. The power cord for the disposal and the drain cleanout are buried in it. I have no idea why it's there, but it's yet another example of the 'craftsmanship' that went into this place. Note the PVC pipe fitting "glued" to the ABS drain pipe.
