I had some Spruce in the wood pile so I ripped up some strips and shot it on with the nailgun. It's lighter wood than the Ponderosa Pine the stair is made from, but I can hit it with some flat polyurethane or shellac to get it more yellow like the Pine. I installed this with a few blobs of construction adhesive on the bottom and back. When I re-do the stairs, a quick buzz with a multitool will allow me to pop it right off.
