I had been told the fireplace had a built-in shutoff valve, so I connected the gas line directly to the unit. During the follow-up inspection after "corrections" had been made, I was told I needed to provide a shutoff valve, in the same room, within 6 feet of the fireplace.. Yay, one more change. I did look for a valve on the fireplace, but couldn't see one. (at the time)
