That cleaned up pretty good. It's clear someone has been in here before as this area is covered in what looks like 40-grit flap wheel marks. If you look at the very back, that pink stuff appears to be Bondo. I'm not going to try to sand these marks out, but I will hit it with some etching primer, then a couple coats of heavy build primer before block sanding it all smooth.
